Yeah, I know. Cooking isn’t easy.
– Maybe, You don’t have the time to shop.
– Maybe, You’re too tired to plan meals.
– Maybe, You just never really learned how to do any of this.
You’re not alone, but it’s time to make some changes.
Not cooking is taking its toll on
your health, your wallet, and the planet.
We believe with a little help and a push you can cook more of your own food, and in turn we each can have an impact and start making cooking the norm again in Galway City. Each week we send out a very simple recipe and a shopping list based on whats on offer and available right here in town so you just go don’t have to think about what to cook or what goes into it. We’re hoping to help make cooking as affordable, quick, and easy as possible even for busy students who are short on cash, time, and fancy cooking equipment.
This isn’t about cooking for show, fine dining, or the likes. It’s about pushing yourself to take small steps to learning how to plan, budget, and shop for foods, so all those tasks associated with cooking become second nature instead of stress inducing. It’s also about trying out different simple ways you can put ingredients together to make something edible and remotely healthy so you gain skills, knowledge, and confidence. The idea isn’t to make you a master chef, but just a little more likely to put down the take-away menu, and a little more likely to pick up a frying pan.
So How exactly does this work?
Step 1: Check your inbox
Once you’re signed up you’ll get a very simple, step-by-step recipe and a list of what ingredients to buy from us each week. We choose recipes based on what ingredients are in-season and on sale in Galway so you can shop local and save money. We’ll even send you ideas on what to do with left over ingredients so you don’t waste any of the food you buy.
Step 2: Get ingredients and cook
This isn’t magic, and you’re going to have put in some effort. Get off your arse and go to the shop or, if that’s too much to ask, get the ingredients on the list delivered. Then follow the directions and make yourself some dinner. Recipes are broken down into the simplest steps and include reference videos so anyone, yes even you, can follow them. Recipes use only kitchen tools that come standard in student accommodation so living in Corrib is no longer an excuse to skip cooking and order take-away.
Step 3: Eat and gloat
Eat a delicious meal and finish your day with a sense of accomplishment, a full stomach, and some home-cooked leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Don’t be surprised if your housemates are jealous. You’ll be saving money, learning new skills, improving your health, and reducing your carbon footprint.
